My
name is Amy David and I am currently a Program Lead at the Navy Child &
Youth Program’s (CYP) School Age Care (SAC) in Middletown, RI. I started at the
CYP’s Child Development Center (CDC) in October of 2009 and moved to the SAC
program in 2014. Starting out at the CDC I was finishing up my Associates in
General Business from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). However, I
have been furthering my education in the early childhood field since the fall
of 2014.
I
started my journey as part of the Rhode Island Department of Education’s (RIDE)
scholarship cohort to receive an Early Childhood Teaching Certificate through
CCRI. Just before starting the cohort, I was informed that my credits from my
Associates in Science could be used towards an Associates in Arts. That’s when
I decided to take the additional 8 courses I needed, alongside the certificate
courses, in order to receive my Associates in Early Childhood Education and
Child Development. I was awarded my Associates in December of 2015 and soon
started my journey at Granite State College (GSC) the following semester.
Throughout
the entirety of my educational journey, both at CCRI and GSC, I have been
working full time at the CYP. I was awarded my Bachelors of Science in Applied Studies in
Early Childhood Development in Administration and Leadership in June of this year. and I have decided to continue my educational journey to receive my Masters
in Teaching Adults in the Early Childhood Field from Walden University this semester.
Philosophy of Education
During my 8 years of experience in the
early childhood field, and the courses I’ve taken at CCRI and GSC, I have come
to believe that, as early childhood educators, we play a crucial role in a
child’s development. The relationships we form with the child and their family,
the environment we provide, the ways in which we help them learn, and the
information we provide families, all play a huge role in the children’s growth
and development.
Amy! How awesome that we both work for CYP for the military (I work for the Air Force but at the end of the day, it's all the same. I too started out in the CDC and now, I'm working for SAC - I couldn't imagine going back either. They are on completely different spectrums but I feel that there is a certain freedom that comes along with working in SAC. I look forward to more discussions throughout the class.

We are both in the same boat that we recently graduated with our Bachelor's and have decided to start our Master's programs pretty much right away.
