Expanding Horizons & Resources Pt. 1

World Forum Foundation.

Bonnie's Café: Meet People
Cambodia- Meet Saran Sok- Principle, New Hope Cambodia

This short video stars Bonnie, one of the founders of the World Forum Foundation, and Saran Sok, the Principle of New Hope Cambodia. Their conversation revolves around Sok's  perspectives on his work in Cambodia with young children. Sok believes that it's important to support every child through their growth and development form a young age for they all play an important part in the world. Sok offers some great analogies and thoughts to help support and visualize his views.

"If you are looking at a forest, you have to look at the tree. Support the tree; and when the tree grows up, the forest will be filled with tress...When we support a child in Cambodia, we also help grow the economy of the world too. If you left behind a child in Cambodia, it means world to suffer because everyone is connected to the world. "

"We support one child, we help the world".

Sok's perspectives on the importance of children around the world is beautiful and breath taking. I always say that children today will be the leaders in the future, so we have to support and provide them with the best possible learning environments and positive experiences to help build the strong foundations they need to have a successful future.

Zero to Three.
An organization who's mission is to ensure society has the appropriate knowledge and resources to support the healthy growth and development of children, birth to the age of three.

"We believe that how we do our work is as important as what we do."

Every other week, I will post new information that can be found on their site and how it's beneficial to early childhood professionals and to children and families. This week I explored the "About Us" section focusing on their Mission and Vision statements to share with you the importance of this site and how they can help early childhood professionals and families alike.

  1. Hello Amy:

I am in agreement with you and Sok that supporting children at a young age and providing them with the best possible positive learning environment is key for a child's success. One of the hardest things is giving a child a positive environment at school and the home environment is not positive. It creates conflict for the child and it makes the early childhood professionals work more challenging. I reflect on being in teaching settings where there were not enough materials for the children. Everyone is frustrated; parents, teachers, and the children. I am thankful that more emphasis is being placed on early childhood education and individuals recognizing how important it is for that strong foundation.
