Expanding Horizions & Resources Pt. 5: Collective Change

"STRESS and ADVERSITY are a part of LIFE..."

"1/3 of the worlds children under five... [are] being stunted developmentally..."

According to the "Saving Brains, A Grand Challenge" media segment, in order to help enrich the brains of young children, especially those facing adversity, there should be a focus on health & nutrition and play-based responsive stimulation. By investing early in the health, nutrition, and stimulation of children we can decrease the number of children affected by impoverished communities and stunted brain development.

Saving Brains aims to improve child outcomes for those living in poverty by offering interventions to increase health, nutrition, and responsive stimulations to aid in protecting early brain development.

"it's NEVER too late..."
...to start implementing play and ECE or nurturing, responding, and engaging children, teens, or adults in our society to change brains for the better!

The Center on the Developing Child's website offers a great deal of information in regards to their work in improving excellence and equity in the early childhood field. I chose to explore their Collective Change section of their site because it I wanted to know what it meant...

This section highlights the importance of building a collective front or movement to help improve the health and well-being of children facing adversity:

"When leaders and change agents align their agendas, networks, and resources in support of a shared goal, they have the power to achieve larger and more sustainable breakthroughs for children and families"

The Center's approach to fostering this movement focuses on building learning communities, designing leadership opportunities, and providing appropriate educational resources. The Learning Community connects professionals from different sectors, disciplines, and localities to share ideas, results, and learn from one another. It aids in setting common goals and measuring progress and it supports distributed leadership. Distributed Leadership highlights the vastness of the collective movement and how it can't be lead solely by one person. "It's success depends on the shared vision and work of individuals, organizations, and systems."
